Kinja'd!!!

1992, XE, 1.6, automatic, 220,000 miles, one owner.

Bought in Ann Arbor, MI, lived in Chicago from 1993 to 1997, but has never seen snow. Oil has been changed every 3,000 miles, and there really isn’t a ding or scratch. Best of all, it has perfectly functioning automatic seat belts and cruise control.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s even got this bangin’ Chicago city registration sticker from 1996.

Second to my father’s neighbor’s absolutely mint 1990 Dodge Shadow (because in Seattle, people take a ridiculous amount of care to their appliances), there probably isn’t a nicer early 90'so economy car than this.

Dan, our friend who owns it, is pretty OCD about clean vehicles, to the point that he sold his previous vehicle, a Datsun 710 that he also bought new, because the clear coat was fading and was becoming two different shades of yellow.

He wants to buy a Tsuru and keep it registered in Mexico, but drive it around North Carolina. It can’t be that illegal.

I think he could get away with it. He may not want to park it in his driveway with his NC registered cars, though.

He could probably register it as a Sentra. Does NC have inspection?

Parked it indoors, drove his Datsun 710. He later sold that for a bag of chips and a dollar.

NC does, but it’s not really strict. He has a rental property in Florida where there is no inspection.

True, but if you take off the front plate and park it backwards it could maybe be fine. Maybe. Plus, his neighbors are cool and I don’t this they would snitch on him to Homeland Security or anything. Mama didn’t raise no snitch...

Because if the Tsuru is 96 or newer, there is OBD-II inspection. I don’t know whether the Tsurus have that kind of computer (unless Mexico started requiring it at the same time we did up here). So if it isn;t OBD-II, it won’t pass NC. In that case, he should register it in FL if he can.

Florida will register anything, they couldn’t care less. Everything is so shady down there. But, yes, NC requires ano OBD-II inspection.

My neighbors are the exact opposite. We put a cover on our Celica GT-FOUR which was not running, but had current registration and insurance, and they immediately called the state, who threatened to take it away as an ‘abandoned vehicle’. Abandoned in our driveway, under a cover. Assholes.

You can get one brand new here in Mexico for like 8000 dollars.

He spent $10,000 for his Sentra back in 1992, so $8,000 seems fair.
